Hi Guelph. I'm Sam Elmslie, and I'd like to be your representative for ward 3. Who am I? I arrived in Guelph, like so many others to do my undergrad in 1999. After growing up in Quebec, New Brunswick, and various spots in Ontario.
If I seem familiar to you, that's probably from the 20 plus years I've spent in the hospitality industry in Guelph. Two decades working in a service-based, hourly wage profession makes me uniquely suited to some of the challenges facing the people of Guelph. It has also instilled in me an ability to communicate, compromise and collaborate, to meet the needs of seemingly disparate groups of people. Hospitality people are keenly aware of the concerns of the average citizen, as we interact with these same citizens face to face, daily.
I don't have all the answers to fix all of the issues facing Guelph. If there is any promise I'm willing to make, it's to work positively and optimistically with people who can help provide some solutions. I will listen and strive for positive solutions and improvements anywhere I can find them.
The current issues I see as most pressing in the city are housing security and affordability, responsible growth, and clear communication and transparency from the local government to the constituents.
I've been serving the people of Guelph for a long time now. I would love the opportunity to do that on a larger and broader scale.
The choice to not use the traditional campaign lawn signs was intentional. I have chosen to go door to door meeting Ward 3 residents and hearing their concerns face to face. My entire hospitality career has been based on relationship building and connecting with people directly.
You can find me out and about in Ward 3 on Thursday and Friday afternoons and early evening until the election.
